What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care discipline that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of the disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and manipulation of the spine.  Chiropractic care helps to release stress from the body and is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, joint pain and headaches.

Doctors of Chiropractic

Doctors of Chiropractic, also referred to as Chiropractors, practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.

Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, tailor-made to the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor will develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment plan; recommending therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies to help the patient recover and lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Spinal Manipulation

The primary avenue of care in Chiropractic is Spinal Manipulation, which is also known as Chiropractic Adjustment. The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Manipulation restores mobility, alleviates pain and muscle tightness, and allows tissues to heal.
